Common malfunctions and causes of car starters

Starter motor not turning
Battery fault: Insufficient battery power, loose or corroded terminals, etc., preventing the starter motor from receiving sufficient power.
Control device fault: Open circuit, short circuit, or poor contact in the solenoid coil, ignition switch damage, etc., preventing the starter motor circuit from being connected.
Internal starter motor fault: Open circuit or short circuit in the DC motor armature winding, commutator erosion, severe brush wear, etc., preventing the starter motor from operating normally.
Starter motor weak
Battery fault: Insufficient battery power or low voltage reduces the power received by the starter motor, resulting in weak operation.
Internal starter motor fault: Bent armature shaft, excessively tight bearing wear, poor contact between commutator and brushes, etc., increase the operating resistance of the starter motor, making it weak.
Starter motor spinning freely
Transmission mechanism fault: Slipping or damaged one-way clutch prevents the starter motor pinion from engaging with the flywheel ring gear, causing the starter motor to spin freely.
Flywheel ring gear fault: Severe wear or damage to the flywheel ring gear teeth prevents the starter motor pinion from engaging properly, causing the starter motor to spin freely.
